Creativity= Trusting in your own light.

...the view from my window last week at the Biltmore...
“I sometimes like to sit in the silence and darkness and listen to my heart shine.”
~Frank Gilroy
I’ve been having some foggy days lately… you know, the ones where you can’t see where you’re going or where you’ve been, enveloped in mist that is as thick as pea soup. Now I can usually trust that the fog will lift or that the sun will eventually burn through, acknowledging that sometimes we simply have to hunker down and sit with the unknown and the nebulous… but I’ve also been reminded lately that I have a handy dandy flashlight tucked away in my spirit, and just because things are adorned with uncertainty does not mean that I must come to a complete standstill.
Imagine for a moment that it’s nighttime and all of the lights blink out, leaving you in total darkness. In times like these, most of us tend to do one of four things…
We hang on to other people and let them lead us to wherever they are going… Let’s face it, there will always be folks in your life who think they know what direction you should be headed, or that seem to have it all figured out and so we think we should do whatever they’re doing~ but following that path only leads you to THEIR dream of you, not YOUR dream of you.
OR, we rely on the residue of outside lights mingled with shadows, hoping it will be enough to reveal our own path… As you might imagine, this only creates a muddy vision of where you’re going, and would probably involve frequent stumbles and run-ins with limitations beyond your couch and your walls.
OR, we surrender to the darkness… Stretching your arms out in front of you, you feel your way around until you find a cozy spot to ride it out. Sometimes this is necessary, kind of like hibernating… it can prove to be a fruitful time to simply go within and explore what’s there. But there are limits to how long you can hang out there before getting swallowed up by an unwillingness to step up and define your own journey.
OR we reach inside our pockets, take out our own flashlight and shine it on our own path. Your light creates the most luminous glow from which you can begin to see what lies ahead of you, what’s behind you, and what’s around you this very moment.
We all have moments of dense fog, or utter darkness.
But your light is clear and radiant, and comes from the deepest hollows of who you are.
Living inside-out means that you are willing to be guided by your own intuition and wisdom…
…to be led by your own torch…
It’s where the journey truly begins in living more authentically and purposefully, and it’s where your most soul-felt desires lay like little seeds beneath the soil waiting to be given the chance to grow, if only you’d expose them to your brilliance.
I invite you to light a candle today in honor of that splendor within you…

LOVE THIS!!!

This is lovely Lisa… and from someone who spent a wee bit of time in the darkness it does become obvious that we carry our own light and that the most important thing in life is that we follow it. (I refer to it as dancing to the beat of my own drum!) You have put this beautifully. Be authentic in spite of the darkness.
Sometimes there is a view or vision from the dark place that wouldn’t have been available to you in the light and shadows of others.
This is a great post. I’ve been unemployed for over 7 months and trust that I’ll land where I’m supposed to land, but I’m really hoping it happens soon. There have been a few times when I’ve just had to sit in the dark and retreat inside for a little bit. Not too long for, as you say, we do need to get moving and define our journey, shining our own light and trusting in its honest glow for our own highest and greatest good.
Rose… I have no doubt that with your splendid attitude, you will find a wonderful job that feeds your soul. Many blessings headed your way!
Sandi… I love that you are dancing to the beat of your own drum… you shine so very brightly!
